Sure, but fetchmail has supported several passwordless schemes for ages
(Kerberos, client-side certificates), and none of them required
application registration or other power play.­

If some provider tells you "you can't get to your data without jumping
hoops", find one that is happy with your, or fetchmail's, access methods.
