I'm (still) filtering spam with CRM114, which is called by my MUA (KMail), when new mail is received. But this doesn't work at all. I still have a lot of false negatives, and some false positives. I've trained the filter for several months now.

Another drawback is, that in this setup, filtering is done for one computer only. I would have to install and train the spam filter on my laptop too. And for my smartphone I'd need a completely different solution. It would be much better, if it could spam-filter the mail before it gets on my local mail server. Which is accessed by all three systems (desktop. laptop and smartphone).
