If in the future there are email service providers who only provide JMAP access, then perhaps getmail could be extended to support it - however, JMAP looks designed primarily for MUAs to use to modify the state of the user's mailbox on the server. It's somewhat less relevant in the case of getmail, which just retrieves mail for a local process to deal with.
