I'm not referring to the Message-ID: field in the message header. That can't be relied on, because it's under the control of the message originator. POP3 and IMAP both have a message attribute (which is not present in the message header when you download the message) assigned by the POP/IMAP server which uniquely identifies the message. > So getmail should not retrieve again? Nope. As far as getmail (or any other mail client) can tell, they are different messages, so they'll all be retrieved.
