THANKS again to all who have answered.
I was unsure before as yahoo states these "app passwords" as "temporary", trying to force users to user their app. But it works!
As I was also unsure, if several different sources can use the same "app password", I've created 3 of them.
- one for getmail (fetching all emails from yahoo and store it in my VPS' IMAP server (dovecot)
- one for Thunderbird, on my Linux box
- one for K9-Mail, on my Android phone
All of them are working fine. Nevertheless are the three pws not an ideal solution, as I usually set the (own VPS) IMAP user pw to the same value than the (Yahoo) SMTP pw, not to get confused by too much pws. But of course now, as I've started with Thunderbird, K9-Mail has it's own SMTP "app password" but re-uses Thunderbird's "app password" = my IMAP password. Which I hopefully will remember in future :D
IMHO funny or even ridiculous is that with a fixed length of 16 chars a yahoo "app password" is much shorter than my usually used auto-generated own passwords :-)
