Best practise question: getmail and unwanted emails

general question:

I'm using getmail to get all mails sent to my ISP-based email addresses (like the one used for this mailing list) transfered to my own VPS, with postfix and dovecot on it.
Works fine for years now, thank you.

Good look I'm getting not that much unwanted emails, most of them filtered out at ISP already.

For emails handled directly by postfix, I've read that the usual way of spam filterung is via "milter", no clou about this, as no need, until now.

But what's the best way for filtering out missed spam when getmail is fetching them to IMAP/dovecot? Any best practices you could / may want to share?
