That sounds like your mailbox provider has changed something, given that 
fetchmail failing pushed you to getmail and you get the same problem.

Who is your mailbox provider?  (It looks like it might be newsguy.com, 
but presuming can waste time.)

And run getmail with the --dump flag and post the output.  By the time 
it's posted those who know more than I shall be able to help more.  :-)
