Thanks for yoour support, Charles, I've updated to the latest (v5) edition
and applied the patch but I'm still getting the same problem.

It is Clara.net who provide the email service, I also use Ionos (1and1).

The problem is on a small subset of messages from a small subset of mailing
lists. I think it is a problem with clara.net. My freeuk.co.uk adresses are
legacy ones hosted by clara.

I will transfer teh affected mailing lists to a 1and1 hosted email address
and see what happens, at least with 1and1 I can use imap rather than pop.

I will let you know in a few weeks what has happened.
