Thank you that link.  I had read that thread offering a patch to getmail-gmail-xoauth-tokens, but it does not explain how to set up the configuration file.

Also, I was unsure how to interpret the part about the additional patch that would be needed "after February" to start an http server on localhost to receive a code via a redirect URI.

From the thread, it looks like the script is unusable until that additional change is made, but I'm not sure if my interpretation is correct or a pessimistic overshoot.  If the tokens script is known to be not working for now, then it would help users to know that so that they aren't spinning their wheels trying to use Getmail with XOAUTH2 to access Gmail.
