It would be nice, but, as Francisco said,  "silly debian maintainers and 
their policies".  I think it is one of their silly policies to default to 
packages that depend on python3 and deprecate anything that still depends 
on python2 even though python2 is still installed and available.  So if 
you know to do it you can easily uncheck getmail6 and install real getmail
instead, but most people aren't that tuned in to such things.  I don't know
what to do about it.
