There is unfortunately no way to install getmail5 — no, I should call it
`getmail` full stop, the fork should change name — from `main`
repositories in Debian Bullseye.

Of course you can install it locally, but then what’s the point of
a software distribution?

I had a similar problem with `neomutt` being shipped as `mutt` by Debian:
- I filed for a name change and failed
    https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=866680
- upstread had to intervene himself for debian maintainers to become
  responsive
    https://mutt-users.mutt.narkive.com/ZIhyEl1W/mutt-neomutt-and-debian-stretch#post7

So my suggestion for Charles & friends is to persevere and if needed
escalate to Debian people and even Github.
