Misleading error message with unreadable ~/.idata

I was misdirected to create a directory ~/.idata before attempting to
run ifile for the first time. While this is a bit pathological, I
would expect that the same error message will be printed in other
situations where there is in fact a problem with ~/.idata (read-only,
directory write protected, etc).

The error message I got was

Line # 16522 not in proper word entry format
Line # 16523 not in proper word entry format
Line # 16524 not in proper word entry format
Line # 16525 not in proper word entry format
Line # 16526 not in proper word entry format
Line # 16527 not in proper word entry format
Line # 16528 not in proper word entry format
Line # 16529 not in proper word entry format
Line # 16530 not in proper word entry format
Line # 16531 not in proper word entry format

... apparently once for each line of input.

While I have your attention, any chance to get a manual page?
