Regarding the costs of storing email:

  SMTP (push-style delivery): recipients bear the costs of going on
  vacation.

  IM2000 (pull-style delivery): senders bear the costs of their
  recipients going on vacation.

Hmm.  Guess I'll have to be more careful about sending email to
Europeans, eh?  ;-/
