Erratic server bouncing mail

Hello,

I  have a problem with my mail server being erratic intermittently
I am using a LWQ installation on a FreeBSD O/S vers 6.0 platform

some mail sent to clients on the system gets bounced back to sender. This
may be correlated, I DO NOT KNOW, with attempts to send mail and the system
replies with a failure message, e.g. smtp not found, but frequently after 2
or 3 attempts, there might be a success.
