I do not think I understand. Via SMTP, the sender dictates when he
needs a few seconds of connectivity to send the message. In case of
IM2000, the recipent wants to dictate when network connectivity is
needed to the sender's mailstore.
The point is not whether network connectivity is available, but _when_
its availability needed to get the actual message.
I am not sure IM2000 would pay off for my mother: she lives in Hungary
where you pay for telephone usage by the minute. Presently, she just
dials in for maybe a minute to download all her messages from her ISP.
Under IM2000, it seems she would have to keep her network connection
open as she decides which email is actually worth downloading.
This is 1 minute vs 30+ minute phonebill. Believe me, it is a
nontrivial matter in Hungary.
