At best, you could retrieve the complete message header, which is far more information than the "summary-only" retrieval of IM2000 -- but more to the point, at this stage with SMTP you have already paid the cost of transporting the entire message to the POP3 server, plus the cost of storing the message on the POP3 server. You haven't done /either/ of these things with IM2000.
