ESMTP_PREFER_IPV6_MX=1 is the default setting in the courierd configuration
file. As installed, by default, it should be there.

However if it was manually removed, or changed to ESMTP_PREFER_IPV6_MX=0,
then Courier will try IPv4 addresses first. It's up to you how you want it
set. Just note that in the event of a complete connection failure the last
attempted IP address, IPv4 or IPv6, will have its error logged.

And, of course, this selects your preference for IPv6 versus IPv4 mail
servers, when both are available.
