That's an old story.
PCRE ended up packaged as pcre3. Then, version 2 ended up as PCRE2.
So now, using pcre3 actually means you are using an outdated version
and you hav to update to pcre2. Quite confusing ☺

courier used pcre3, and then updated to pcre2. However, the Debian
package of courier is still 0.71.4, which was using pcre3.
