well I don't choose, as I don't choose if it's converted to base64... 
since email don't evolve, client are choosing the "safe way" and since 
text isn't suited for formating, they include html AND text... anyway, 
you're speaking of bandwidth of something that is a few kB... if it was 
me, I wouldn't even send the text alternative... and just the header is 
much more overhead than the multipart/alternative

required bandwidth for text is nothing, but email text (appart chitchat) 
is not so much something to concern about (anyway i'm western european, 
so almost everything fits into the 7bits ascii) BUT, as I said, 
attachements are what is about....

as I already said :

file hosting is no legal proof... so it's useless, clients can sue, say 
the files where modified, that they weren't available, anything, because 
it's not legal, and even, they don't have anything to argue, just say 
it's not legal and that's it, it can't be used do defend myself, and 
asking a signed acknowledge so that they received it is useless, they 
are free not to send it, and after? email is legal proof that I sent the 
documents.
