Old versions that used Gamin reported Gamin going belly-up as an EIO error. Any kind of a filesystem corruption or a hardware error is going to dump a whole bunch of stuff to syslog. If this is all you're seeing it's just a synthesized error message, reporting system-wide chaos of this sorty, and not tied to any particular directory.
