Stupid question about hash mailbox

Hi,
About the new mail storage with UUID I've two questions :
1/ “how” the UUID is calculated ? Does it use some salt ?
2/ If for some reason I need to restore from a *file system* a whole
maibox of a user, how should I do ? Before I will
rsync -av BACKUP bals/user/login/somemailbox
reconstruct user.login
