it seems that the parameters for oauth-2 authentication are hardcoded :-(

so even if I manage to find/configure a sasl plugin for oauth2, 
thunderbird wouldn't even try to authenticate unless it's one of the 
registered servers

The first one was missing the code to read one of the parameters (the 
scope), but due to the hardcoded parameters in thunderbird adding the 
missing code is of no use.
