Hello,

I have a question about the Sieve Vacation module.

Currently, the automatic reply doesn't include the "References" header from=
 the original email. It often has an "In-Reply-To" header:

```
Message-ID: <cmu-sieve-392859-1781788754-1@hermes>
Date: Thu, 18 Jun 2026 15:19:14 +0200
X-Sieve: CMU Sieve 3.0
X-Sieve-Action: vacation
Subject: Received/Erhalten: Re: Received/Erhalten: Howdy!
In-Reply-To: <46ce3dd0-2763-4f88-aca2-04ff30254ba4@ <mailto:46ce3dd0-2763-4=
[email protected]>example.xyz>
Auto-Submitted: auto-replied (vacation)
MIME-Version: 1.0
```

The "References" header would be great, so mail clients can better associat=
e messages with conversations. Thunderbird, f.ex. does successfully show th=
e first reply in the thread, but any further automatic replies are not in t=
he thread anymore, because of the missing references.

Would it be possible for the Cyrus Vacation module to properly generate the=
 "References" header according to RFC 5322 Section 3.6.4 (e.g., by appendin=
g the original email's Message-ID to its existing References)?

Are there any reasons why that wouldn't be possible? I read on this thread =
<https://dovecot.org/mailman3/archives/list/[email protected]/thread/QDJB=
3R2DTIIDY3774BJRR64FURIMJ2CO/>, that Dovecot (apparently) does it.

I am currently running Cyrus 3.4.3. I couldn't verify if this behavior has =
already been changed in more recent versions up to 3.12. If it has, a quick=
 heads-up would be appreciated=E2=80=94otherwise, I would highly appreciate=
 this improvement.

Thanks,
Dominik
