Ah!  That's what I was confused about, and that makes this process a LOT
easier than I feared!

Yeah, but it avoids (I hope) the entire problem of needing to
parse/convert the database format!  I created a new empty folder for the
restore, rsync'ed the restored contents (including the cyrus.* files),
and "reconstruct"'ed the folder!  I don't have an easy way to test, but if
the owner's seen/unseen state (like other flags but unlike other people's
seen/unseen state for the same folder) is actually in cyrus.index, then
"reconstruct" should have picked all that information up for her from the
cyrus.index file restored from tape along with the messages!  That's what
I'd hope but I sent myself down a rabbit hole thinking *everybody's*
seen/unseen state (not just non-owners) was stored outside the folder
directory itself.

(We'd gotten bitten by that when we migrated from the previous server,
but we did that by using "imapsync", and running it as the "cyrus"
user rather than the user whose mail was being migrated, which was
my fatal mistake.  Would have been a lot better to just migrate the
folder-tree disk structure but there was a *lot* of database corruption
on the old server.  So anyway I was conflating a couple of unrelated
problems I'd been bitten by.)
