You should have accompanied your post with the output of 'doveconf -n'
(while using doveconf from 2.4).
Dovecot 2.4 will not work with the config from 2.3. I am sure you already
know that.
In the above debug, I see that your passwd file was not found. Maybe that's
the problem - or something else.

I run Dovecot 2.4 on FreeBSD 15 and it works, but it's just for testing,
and I use MariaDB backend.
