Just one additional thought that you're probably aware of, but it seems
useful to ensure it's mentioned in the thread - LMTP allows you to have
basically any MTA speak to basically any IMAP server.

Cyrus IMAP, Isode M-Box, and (I think) Dovecot all speak LMTP, which means
you've decoupled the on-disk format of mailboxes from your MTA, which can
give you a liberating and fuzzy feeling.
