Deleting Gmail folders

I've finally RTFM and have gotten folderfilter working so that I'm only
syncing ['[Gmail]/All Mail', '[Gmail]/Drafts', '[Gmail]/Sent Mail'] instead
of the dozens of folders that I use on the web interface (e.g., Family,
Friends, etc.). Can I safely delete those from my local Maildir, or will
that garble something?
