PSC Multinet is not the same as PMDF. PMDF was written by Innosoft 
International, Inc, West Covina, CA, US. In the year 2000 Sun 
Microsystems bought PMDF and the major developers of Innosoft (among 
which Ned Freed, co-author of the MIME standard) started to work for 
Sun. The PMDF Message Transfer Agent was combined with the Netscape 
Messages Store to create the iPlanet Messaging Server (currently known 
as SunONE Messaging Server). The PMDF product line (and the right to 
develop it) was licensed to Process Software (PSC, Boston, MA, US).

Process Software had acquired Multinet from Cisco before the year 2000. 
Multinet had (and has) its own SMTP server but it has very limited 
capabilities compared to PMDF. So Process Software 'owns' two SMTP 
servers, although only PMDF is under active development.
