RE: ldap_simple_bind_s failed protocol error

Success at last!  The remaining error was that I had both LDAP_HOMEDIR and
LDAP_MAILROOT defined in authldaprc.  As LDAP_HOMEDIR is the absolute path
to the mail directory, LDAP_MAILROOT is not required!

Hmm...

Courier won't let one log in if it can't cd/chroot to the directory
with the mail.  I would check that 1) postfix is putting the mail
where courier is looking.  (chroot for postfix could be a monkey
wrench here) 2) permissions/ownership are good for /home/vmail
