You can assume that.

As additional information, even at higher-level API, you can choose not 
to cache the information: you have a flag 'cache' when creating the 
mailstore. At worse, there will be a memory cache for the message you 
are currently working with, but it won't be the case for IMAP 
implementation of the high-level API.
=> You don't need to use mailimap_* to avoid the use of the cache.

Then, you won't have to rewrite everything.

For information, why did you plan to do the cache yourself ?
