Sorry, didn't help. Still a problem, but as it seems a new one. 
(Tips.txt is now present) I will have a closer look.

It looks in .../share/mahogany
Instead of .../share/mahogany/doc/

BUT: This was some artifact of multiple "make install" with different
versions (from head of cvs) in the same target dir.
The problem disapeared, after I removed the target dir and then installed again.

Until just now it still doesn't work. (Just did a cvs update)

This problem is gone. I don't know if it is due to the 'cvs update' or the
wxwidgets update or configuring wxwidgets --without-gtk2.

Unfortunately I have a curious new one:
I build (and install) wxwidgets and mahogany as one (ordinary) user ("pd")
I usually use it as "myself" ("jost")

When I start mahogany as "pd" mahogany comes up with the limitations above.

BUT when I start it as "jost"...
... if my "old" config is still present I get:
>/pd/mahogany0.66cvs/bin/M
Gtk-CRITICAL **: file gtkwidget.c: line 3358 (gtk_widget_set_parent): assertion `!GTK_WIDGET_TOPLEVEL (widget)' failed.

Then the terminal window hangs. No toplevel window comes up (as the message is implying)

... if I delete my old config I get:
A window reporting that mahogany crashed. ("Report to bug tracker")
In the terminal:
zsh: 22335 abort      /pd/mahogany0.66cvs/bin/M
But no core file

... if I now start again (with the "new" config)
I first get the message, that a lock file has been removed, then a crash just looking the same.

I did a 'chmod -R g+rX *' (as "pd") on both the mahogany tree and the wxwidgets tree.

Any ideas ?
