gtk2 text control slowness

Hello,

With gtk1 opening 64k message takes a few seconds, while with
gtk2 - about a minute. Any idea where this slowness may come from?
Text control most probably? Yes, just tested - with default and html
viewers message opens instantly. Then I disabled Quotes and URLs
filter - text only viewer also opens message constantly.
So it's text attributes then (btw, the feature which I introduced for
wxGTK2 1.5 year ago... oh well...).
