i built wxWidgets on a 10.3.9 system. wxWidgets and M were both relatively
recent (1 week old) checkouts from CVS.

wxWidgets was built per the instructions in the mahogany INSTALL file,
except for removing --with-gtk from the configure line.

building mahogany with this copy of wxWidgets produced numerous messages
from ranlib complaining about no symbols in things like libtiff. i decided to
charge ahead and start M

it came up, and presented the wizard. i declined to use the wizard, figuring
to fill out my preferences manually after i get the whole imap server thing
going on the mac. it then asked about automagically checking inbox, i told
it not to (i wasn't planning to use inbox).

M then went off to check inbox anyway, and subsequently crashed. since
this wasn't a debug build, i got no stack trace.

i decided to try running again (no wizard might mean alternate code path,
after all), and was rewarded with the code simply hanging. tried this twice,
and decided to do a debug build.

make clean in wxWidgets, and then ../configure --with-debug

the compilation fails in src/mac/carbon/utils.cpp, in function wxBell()
SysBeep is undeclared.
