| to IMAP on localhost? When mailboxes are served from IMAP server their
| format doesn't matter and M should work (in fact I did use it with a
| maildir-based IMAP server in the past although I don't any more).

Do you remember how you configured M that way ?
(accessing the imap maildir; say imap:127.0.0.1/INBOX )
