 -ansi is default, you have to use --enable-unicode explicitly if you want
it.

 Yes, the editor is poor, the only consolation is that the previous one had
been even worse. It should be possible to have something reasonably nice
now that wx has wxRichTextCtrl but the problem is that I don't really care
much about this as I always use external editor anyhow...
