folder cannot be read?

Mahogany said it cannot open one of my mail folders.
I've been using this folder without problem until today. 

The folder seems to be undamaged.  (I copied it to 
my Pine folder, and Pine reads it fine.)

To get Mahogany to read it, I had to remove it,
recreate an empty folder, and then (while Mahogany
was closed) copy the file back over to Mahogany,
where it now works fine.

Any clues?
