So, I pick Edit/Preferences from the menu and then
pick the Compose tab and change the foreground color
to white.  I start a new message (which invokes my editor),
and then close my editor.  Hmmm, now I see white text as
expected ... apparently I cannot reproduce this now.
No clue ... I'll fiddle around with it a bit and see if
I can figure out what happened.
