I have not attempted to use xfilter so no information.

10.9 does come with procmail (rebuilt for 10.9) and I get the same results 
with my own self-built procmail from source (using the procmail Apple 
provided with 10.8 does not result in this error). With certain recipes, I 
get:

Nov 23 09:34:38 example.com procmail[1310]: detected source and destination
buffer overlap
Nov 23 09:34:40 example.com postfix/local[1250]: 38663572D4E0:
to=<[email protected]>, relay=local, delay=2.5, delays=0/0/0/2.5,
dsn=4.3.0, status=deferred (Command died with signal 6: "/usr/bin/procmail?)

On the Procmail list, someone said that is due to a call to strcpy where 
both pointers reference the same string at different locations. 
Interestingly, the recipe causing the problem is one similar to what I 
asked about in my original post - extracting one line and sending it to my 
phone's text message address.
