If that were the case, the indenting of messages within a thread would
be much more obvious.  With three lines per message, the pipe and hyphen 
are only helpful to people who already know that they are used to mark
replies in a thread.  Of course, I gave each message three lines because
I thought there was too much information to squeeze into one line.
