No newline at end of messages?

I am seeing a strange bug in which some outgoing list mail fails because there isn't a newline at the end of the last line of the message. There must have been a newline on the way in, since SMTP couldn't have delivered it here otherwise. Does this sound familiar? Does anything try to strip trailing newlines? I even hacked mj_enqueue to add \n\n to the end of incoming mail, didn't help.
