I haven't seen any replies so I guess Marc wasn't explicit enough.

I don't think it's a setting -- I think it's a bug.

Note that the point here is that the archives are getting a mail with a
subject that is shorter than what Bruce Momjian has on his sent-mail
folder.  The reply to that message contains more pointers to the
archives mbox, etc (that message haven't made it to the archives at this
time ... it will be there shortly).  Note that the very same thread
where this is being discussed suddenly has a truncated subject at a
point.
