Well, I wish I had written it down, but I didn't and I can't recall
precisely ... however ...

When fiddling with aliases, I think it was when I would run newaliases, I'd
get a warning that my virtual user table (vut) was out of date. I probably
thought I was solving the problem by restarting one or more services on the
server.

I think that the problem had to do with the way I was answering the
following during the Mj2 Makefile.PL process:

>> Should Majordomo maintain your aliases automatically?

>> Should Majordomo make links to alias and virtual user files?

For this particular domain/installation, one or two of those had "yes"
answers. I don't recall now. The last time, I changed to "no" for all, and I
haven't had a problem since.

(When lists change, I make the changes manually to /etc/aliases. And I do
have the symlink from smrsh to mj_enqueue. It's actually quite simple and
easy to do, of course, but most of my clients can't do it so I'm somewhat
restricted to running Mj2 only on domains I also maintain.)

I have made other installations of Mj2 work answering "yes" to all three of
those questions. This is on Linux Fedora servers with sendmail. But we also
use the Ensim control panel software, which presents the challenge. Mj2 has
to be installed on a domain-by-domain basis (and cron jobs can't be run
because of file ownership conflicts in the chrooted environment, so I do the
"triggers" thing manually now and then). But the bigger deal is that Ensim
upgrades, patches, and so on, regenerate the default sendmail.cf file and
I'd lose my Mj2 aliases link. So I gave up on fussing with sendmail, and
enter the aliases manually.

Anyway, I hope no one thought I was complaining about Mj2. I wasn't! My
problems, I know, have to do with my non-techie brain and Ensim software
issues. Just as an aside, I also have some experience now with Mailman. And,
in my opinion, perhaps based on the specific clients, for sure, it is far
easier to explain the Mj2 web interface to subscribers than the Mailman
interface. The options are "way cooler" too. List owners are a different
story, but that has to do with the "abundance," let's call it, of options.
It can take a day or two to get list owners oriented. But, once up to speed,
I've never heard one of them say, "Gee, I wish we had Mailman."

I love Mj2.

Thanks, Michael (and everyone who's helped or worked on this thing)!
