[mew-int 2774] Hooks and ditching NNTP

Hello,

I'm using Mew version 6.3 on Emacs 23.1 (linux) and have a few questions.

First, how do I tell Mew to never try to use or otherwise deal with
NNTP?  I don't have a news server, or a need to get one, but I do read
a few mailing lists that are gateways to news groups.  When I try to
reply to one of these messages, Mew throws away the mail headers (To:,
Cc:) in favor of setting up a reply to the group.

Relatedly, if I'm not paying attention when Mew does this and I try to
send the message, not only does sending bomb, but the message appears
to get thrown away.  It's not in a buffer, not in +drafts or +backup,
it's just gone as far as I can tell.  This smells like a bug, but I'm
willing to believe I'm just not looking hard enough for the message.

Lastly, which hook should I attach a function to if I want it run
whenever a message is displayed and *only* when a message is
displayed?  I'd also like to know what the sure-fire way to get at the
buffer holding the message is.  I've tried mew-message-mode-hook and
mew-message-hook, but neither seem to be called when I want.
(mew-message-mode-hook seems particularly strange since maybe 40% of
the time it's getting called when only the Summary is up, even if it's
a Summary that contains no messages.)

I have a number of functions I'd like to have run on every message
buffer Mew fires up.  Obviously I can do this by making these
functions commands and invoking them myself, but I'd rather not.

Any help would be most appreciated!
