I guess that's partly due to inertia and partly due to something I didn't make 
explicit when I mentioned the failure to build with later Xcodes, and that is 
that the OS X 10.6 SDK is the final version that Mulberry can build with. But 
I can attest to the fact that those 10.6 builds still run file up to Mavericks 
at least (I haven't tried it on Yosemite yet). And that 10.6 build is very 
likely one of Martin Dietze's. Sorry I forgot to actually provide links the 
first round, but Christer Mjellem Strand did the honours there.

I only figured out the 10.6 SDK limitation a couple of weeks ago, when I first 
attempted an OS X build myself, and merrily started with Xcode 6, then 5, then 
4.6.
