Point taken. This means that we have indeed a major issue here. My background as a developer is mainly Unix, therefore I am not too familiar with Mac API particularities. Maybe there is a chance that we will find support for legacy APIs provided by open source libraries in the future? I guess that the changes you outlined here may affect a number of existing projects so that there should be a fair bit of motivation for reviving them somehow in the near future.
