I ended up going down the same path. A long time ago, someone posted a 
link to an MUA that looked really interesting, but try as I might, I 
couldn't find it. So, I ended up with Thunderbird, as the only MUA that 
would do everything I needed.

I hate to see Mulberry go, but without ongoing development, it's dead.
