To each their own.... my Mom uses/likes Apple mail, I loathe it...

That said, the best Apple email program (way back when I still used
Macs) I recall ever having used (although it has been so long I don't
even remember how it compares to Thunderbird today) was Claris Emailer.

As does thunderbird.

I especially like the CTRL+SHIFT+L shortcut to Reply-To-List, making it
easy to reply only to the list for email lists (like this Mulberry list)
that don't engage Reply-To munging (forcing the reply to go to the list).
