I struggled with whether to reply, but Rene and Milan hit my feelings on 
the head.  Personally, while I appreciate your effort, I still don't 
really care for the optimization in this case.

You do good work, Gero.  In case others don't know, Gero contributed the 
monitor.c code and has been on-and-off involved in Mutt since way before 
I came on the scene.  I want to be clear that I value your involvement 
and hope my "no" won't deter you from continuing to scratch your various 
itches to improve things.
