See http://mutt.org/doc/manual/#attribution and http://mutt.org/doc/manual/#date-format As an example, mine is: set attribution="On %{!%-e %b %Y %R %z}, from %a (%n):" The %{} stanza expands to the date and time of the message I'm replying to, and is passed to strftime(3) as also described under $date_format.
