Cannot accept semicolon to separate email addresses

Hi,

When tried send email to multiple addresses which separate by a semicolon 
";".  I got error and the maillog file get "invalid route address"

Seems only comma "," can be accepted.

Is it possible to accept both, becuase most of the software accept this.
